I've got a couple that I've heard around/or think of myself:
(I don't know how to do the spoiler code so ignore below people if you're against that)
SPOILERS BELOW
Lion is Pink Diamond.
Lion is Greg's old cat that got fused with one of PD's shards.
Pink Diamond's shards are in the chest inside Lion.
Rose didn't shatter PD, Pearl did. Which is why Garnet looked at her when Ruby spills the beans and Pearl looked away and shuddered.
PD was shattered by the diamonds in a coup to get control of the earth's (which we found out tonight was a valuable colony with a lot of good minerals to make strong gems). Also would feed into the idea of 'only a diamond can scratch another diamond'. They blamed it on the rebels.
PD was allied with the Crystal Gems and was shattered by the diamonds over it, who hid it from HW and blamed it on the CGs.
PD wasn't shattered. Ruby is stupid and easily fooled. She was poofed and Rose let people believe she was shattered because it made the diamonds back off.
PD was shattered at the end of the war, HW evacuated immediately after and the diamonds retaliated using the corruption song. They stayed away from earth since then because they assumed that that made the earth no longer a viable colony.
Each Diamond has a specific purpose. YD = Tech, BD = Culture, WD= is the head diamond. PD was in charge of creating gems, when she shattered the knowledge of how to do it well died with her. Which is why the new era gems aren't as powerful. Or PD was in charge of military, which is why she the Quartz's were aligned with her.
PD was the youngest diamond (possibly even a new diamond), which is why her mural showed her with only one planet in her hand, that being earth.
Shattering PD is what made Rose value life. She was horrified by her actions. Bismuth got the idea for the breaking point after hearing about Rose's shattering of PD. Assuming she'd be into it and then not listening to reason.
