GMAYL is falling like a rock. On radio and ITunes.
Without the deal she would not have that precious top10-single.

The point I made was that for a song that didn't really live up to its name, was leaked and had a huge scandal all encompassed within its name, it still got top 10.
I'll remind you that almost everyone has radio deals in popular music.

Yes, big artists often get deals, that's not bad! I did not mean it that way. But it is sad when your song starts falling when the deal is over (after the rolling of course).
And if they had already accepted that the song won't succeed they seriously should have replaced it. Otherwise they wasted the biggest promo spot on earth.

I think ggw is just as embarrassing as gmayl is. Madonna whatever happened to you? Ray of light is one of my favorite pop records ever!

You act as if the song had so many things going against it.
Her team secured some of the best promotional spots an artist could ever want. She also strategically made use of both Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.
I doubt that the leak adversely affected the song's performance. The song itself is weak. That's the primary reason why it's falling now that it no longer has all the promotional deals to prop it up.
In light of controversy over her and Lady Gaga, I would have expected Madonna to release a much much better song. As a fan, I am disappointed. It as if she had the mindset that she could release even the most mediocre song and it would still be a hit solely because her name was associated with it. Had any other artist released this song, it would not have ever even neared the Top 10 or Top 20.

This wasn't comeback single material, but people need to STOP saying that Madonna tried to pass it off and was being lazy. She probably really liked it!!

Is that true that she doesn't have writing credit on GGW?

I actually quite like GMAYL. It's cute, fun, mindless. It's an album track imo.

I agree, I think she thought it'd fit well with the Super Bowl and I kinda agree, but for a huge first single, no.

I like GMAYL, too.
My point was that even though it was viewed as bad by, arguably, most of America, it still got top 10.

I like her music from the beginning, but also form later on, mid 90's, she had nice "mature" songs! Even mature dance, as you can name "Ray Of Light". And what about "Frozen" and "Sound Of Goodbye"? Very beautiful tracks without trying to be relevant.
But with the last 2 records, we didn't get to see the mature Madonna. We just got the "trying to stay up with the youngsters" one. I was hoping to see the mature Madonna back on MDNA. "Ray Of Light" was age appropriate without sounding old fashioned. Now we get, for the third record on a row, the one that's trying to hard.
GMAYL is indeed a fun popsong, nothing more. But give it to any other artist, it's a flop. And Girls Gone Wild is another fastfood-single: up fast, down fast, bye ...
As named Queen Of Pop, we expect more!

Maturity doesn't mean good! Her age shouldn't reflect the type of music she wants to do. Fun Pop songs can be the best, and we don't know what will happen with any other artist so I don't know why people bring that up. We also haven't even heard Girls Gone Wild!

Madonna could realease Ray Of Light (the song) today ( with little changes) and have a huge hit.

I agree. The quality of her earlier work is superior to the last several singles she has released.

The song actually climbed to #10 the week AFTER the deal, but this is not the GMAYL thread so unless you want to get some WPs for off-topic, take a seat.

Valid point.
I just think Madonna is at a place right now....where she WANTS to do carefree music. What's the point of having meaty songs when you don't have the life experiences to pull from and deliver mature songs with some gusto.
I mean, her daughters are teenagers -- she's practically dating a teenager....Madonna's life is probably very young-oriented right now, so she probably wants to do this type of music.
