From a rational perspective, the storm is already showing signs of weakening and though it still will not be good for the North East (and most likely I'm going to lose power), this is in no way going to be a Katrina 2.0 lol

The World Meteorological Organization created a list of male and female names back in 1979. There were a total of 6 lists. Sandy is on the fourth list, and this is the first time it has been used since this list was first used back in 1982.

Weakening? It's showing signs of strengthening sis.. I'm tracking this myself without even the help of the media using NOAA / NHC / NWS maps and forecasts and it's as bad as they are saying..

I'm from Ivyladn Pennsyvlania and we have like 5 back up generators ready to go when poweer goes out. they told us to expect it to be out for 7-10 days at least, its so scary.

The guy that devised it came up with like 40 names and it just goes in order from whichever hurricane comes up

After the 40 names are finished they reuse them unless a one was so massive that they have to retire it

Wind strength doesn't mean anything.. It will have winds like a Cat 2 when it's complete.. But winds mean nothing when it comes to size, pressure, and snow.. Because of how big it is, it will cause alot more damage.. Plus it's hitting a more populated area too, so that also factors into the damage.. There is a huge amount of snow being dropped in WV etc.. Katrina was 920mb. Making it the 3rd lowest on record for a landfalling Atlantic storm in the US. Sandy is at 951 right now and will most likely get higher with it already showing signs of weakening.

Comparing this to Katrina is really funny. I highly doubt Sandy is going to submerge full towns underwater, kill 2,000 people. Yes it'll rain a lot, yes it'll be windy, yes it may have low pressure, yes the storm is huge.

The only reason damage estimates are so high is because it's hitting areas with more expensive real estate, and tons of large cities.
