December 2010
Now that we're getting pretty damn close to that end of 2010 countdown, I thought I'd add a little commentary this month.
Alternative/Modern Rock
The presumed 2nd single from Kings of Leon new album "Come Around Sundown" takes the top debut and top spot this week. 'Pyro' has always been the standout track and will ride high on the year-end chart. Florence + The Machine continues their end of year surge with the continued strength of 'Dog Days are Over' and late addition 'Kiss With A Fist'. They will have a fantastic year-end campaign with at least 3 singles and a showing for the album "Lungs". In mid-November, I had the absolute privilege of seeing Mumford & Sons live in Toronto, hence, the continued strength of 'The Cave'. Expect big success for the two singles and huge recognition for their album, "Sigh No More", on the year-end chart. Heard lots of new and not-so-new rock music this past week, hence all the debuts and a re-entry for The Temper Trap. The new Cage The Elephant is pretty damn great, looking forward to their new album. Also, caught on late to that terrific Cake tune. Been a strong few months for the tracks from Jimmy Eat World, Black Keys, and Phoenix - expect nice showings on the year-end for them. Notice the absence of Brandon Flowers (who I'm seeing live tomorrow night!) and The Arcade Fire this month, the first time since I don't know, June? Although, TAF should return with "We Used To Wait" in 2011. Expect big year-end recognition for "Crossfire" and "Ready To Start", arguably two of the biggest songs of the year for me, as well as their respective albums.

Top 40
Adele just had to go ahead and drop one of the absolute, hands down, best songs of the year. I am going to save my glowing praise for "Rolling With The Deep" when I have the honor of commenting on it in my year-end top 20 (at the very least). Can you tell I'm feeling the new Rihanna tracks? She occupies #2-4 this week with some of her best music yet. She will have a big year-end presence, as always. Usher & Chris Brown have seen a return to better form these past few months, and Usher specifically will have a good year-end campaign with 'OMG', 'DJ', 'Hot Tottie', and now 'More'. The Script manage to come back on the chart after a strong 2009.
