I can definitely sense that. I'm still surprised she didn't get lashed (besides here and stan twitter) for her election stance but I guess she was out of the spotlight/on her break that's why.

But yeah I can see that happening and I hope she put her skills for calculation to good use bc I can also see people using Meryl as a drag too. Like "if Meryl Streep could use her awards show platform/speech to speak up about Trump, how come Taylor Swift couldn't!111!".

2011 : Rolling in the Deep (soul/blues)
2012 : Somebody That I Used to Know (indie/alternative)
2013 : Blurred Lines (R&B)
2014 : Happy (neo soul)
2015 : Uptown Funk (funk)
2016 : One Dance (dancehall)

None of them are run of the mill pop songs

Generic isn't exclusive to one genre. I'm talking about the GP using a similar sound over and over again. Blurred Lines, Happy and Uptown Funk are basically the same song and Bruno is still doing that sound with 24KMagic because people still eat it up.
Since Q3 2016 it's more Cheap Thrills or Closer, hence Ed smashing with Shape Of You and the better song is losing because of a trend.
