Nope, you're not that wrong. They brought in new people and started replacing the legendary vets for season 4 and people were kind of pissed about that and ratings went down. Then I guess Ryan Murphy started giving no ****s and just let the writers repeat old storylines, but instead use them on the newbies. The season was still good but it definitely lacked from the spectacular first 3. Season 5 has been an absolute roller coaster, and as I said before: it had a rocky start (some episodes were good, some were VERY campy,) then the freaking puppet and Christmas episodes were just truly messy and are the only two that I really really hate out of the whole series. They took a little break and luckily things got back on track once they ended the Glee club and focused on New York, though the show did get a little plain (but still enjoyable and realistic.)
I think the main reason for the downfall in quality was Cory. Season 4 was still pretty good (and underrated) but I'm sure all the writers were ready to put out all these ideas and then suddenly a big lead character goes and things got EXTREMELY messed up, causing them to rush out new ideas immediately. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for the best but they did start improving after the hiatus from early December to late February, even though their ratings unfortunately still decreased. And fff at the fact that I've written this much about Glee, I stan hard for the show and it's still my favorite, but luckily I'm not delusional and can't accept its flaws.
