So, I'm not understanding the backlash from Britney's fans. You girls are mad for the wrong reasons.

Was her appearance (we won't even call it a performance) a mess and a total disappointment? Absolutely. But here's the thing, we all knew this **** was pieced together so horribly last minute, we knew the sort of planning necessary for a full-on, choreographed, elaborately costumed performance didn't happen. Show producers never posed the question, "How can we incorporate Britney into Nicki's performance in an interesting and polished manner?", because it's quite clear that the idea of Britney even appearing is rather recent and sort of just a serendipitous "Oh, look, several collaborators are performing/attending. We didn't know this before? What can we do with this? How can we milk this for publicity?" sort of thing. They got the very basic clearance they needed to have her make a two short appearances, but they weren't going back to the drawing board for the whole Nicki performance, and they certainly weren't going to think of a way to make it possible for Britney to perform more than a brief chorus of her hit. And because they were only allotting her that brief moment on stage, the show producers certainly weren't going to invest the sort of time and money needed to support one of Britney's performances. And because Britney's was only appearing for that brief moment, Britney's team wasn't going to invest the sort of time and money to support one of Britney's large-scale performances, particularly when she's busy enough with the tour preparations. Had Britney's appearance been planned further in advance, it's obvious all the usual trimmings (dancers, choreography, stage props, and so forth) would have been there. We would have gotten the whole shebang, and we would have been pleased because we wouldn't have stans of the non-icons attempting to drag us for filth while using the most embarrassing broken English.

Don't be mad at Britney for failing to give us a true performance, be mad at Britney/her team for agreeing to this in the first place and putting us in the position (once again) to have to defend her.

I understand people being upset, and I feel as fellow stans we need to UNDERSTAND why our friends feel the way they do. Quite frankly the hype and anticipation is what got us. Let's be honest, WE as fans hyped ourselves up. We expected this amazing performance and the media did their job and hyped us up.

This was Britney's first foray into a live award show performance/appearance in four years. It's baby steps. She did enough to get tongues wagging, she got some promo and the talk will be how amazing she looked and what a difference it was from four years ago.

I'm looking at this from both angles, as a fan who let myself give into the hype, but also as a fan who understand why things happened the way it did.

I said my piece. If you agree fine, if not, that's ok to.
