A lot of acts tend to wait weeks before releasing songs in the UK. This allows weeks of airplay and pre-orders to build up so that they easily go to no 1 when the song is finally released. This makes it pretty easy to get no 1 in the UK by utilising this strategy. For example Cheryl Cole, does this and even though her songs go to no 1 they tend to be massively front-loaded and have don't sell a lot in total.
Notable acts who did not use this strategy in the UK recently are Taylor and Rihanna. If they had done then SIO and FFS would have been certain no 1 debuts in the UK. By releasing their singles for sale immediately on a global release date, (or maybe 1 day later due to time differences), this cuts down on piracy, as UK fans can immediately buy the track rather than weeks or months after the rest of the world (or at least the US).
I see no lies.
But Ellie's lead is still impressive, and she was already #18 on iTunes with the preorders!

LMLYD will definitely be a huge #1 though it's got hit written all over it and has huge promo and support so I don't think it'll be frontloaded.
But yeah Uptown Funk being released early and Shake It Off slaying without ever reaching #1 are examples that we need to get the songs released instantly.
13 Shawn Mendes - A Little Too Much
18 Shawn Mendes - Something Big
19 Shawn Mendes - Life of the Party
20 Shawn Mendes - The Weight
Where did these come from?
Shawn Mendes will have HUGE sales, once the album's out in three months. His pre-order was trending for hours yesterday, being the top trend in the US most of the time.
Navy : "Rihanna is the biggest female right now" Billboard : "Rihanna's lead single to sell 130k in it's first week" Me : "These numbers are not impressive, isn't she supposed to be #1 popstar?" You : "2014 is PRESSED"
KatyCats : "After the Superbowl performance she will have multple songs in the top 10" iTunes *None of Katy's singles managed to reach top 20* Me: "Didn't the Kats say she'll have many singles in the top 10?" You : "2014 is so PRESSED"
I am clearly NOT the one who is pressed and it's pretty obvious who is the pressed one.

LMLYD is certainly gonna be big hit in the UK, cos the song is quality (imo) and Ellie is very popular in the UK. I was just explaining why it was selling 3 times as much as UF right now.
And obviously as a soundtrack song, the artist does not have full control over the release date, as it has to be tied in the movie release date.

Yeah with this example I can understand the wait to release due to being from a film but having to wait for tons of my fave songs is the biggest pain so I do hope it stops eventually!
Missy So glad she slayed last night. Was certainly not expecting her songs to shoot up the iTunes chart, but so deserving. "Work It" will forever be my bop.
