Yeah, I always figured it was nerves too. That's why I mentioned pre-recorded perfs, like the ones she did in her house when the album first came out. She could have done it there or something I will never forget the first time I ever listened to the studio version of SLY and almost fell off my bed when she sang the chorus like that I was so used to listening to the live versions.

I never knew the ones in her house were pre-recorded! And yeah, I felt the same way because the first time I heard the song was on the VMAs, so when I bought the album, I listened to the studio version and it absolutely shocked me! I wasn't expecting it.

The high notes during the chorus. She didn't like it but Dan Wilson loved it and persuaded her to put it in there.
She re-recorded SLY with Rick Rubin but wanted to use the demo for the album since the re-recorded version was apparently a lot different.

I knew she recorded "Someone Like You" with Rick Rubin and it had an orchestra and stuff (I think it was originally named "Reminded" and featured the orchestra version), but she opted to do the demo version instead. I never knew Dan Wilson made her do the high notes during the chorus. The high notes were really hard for her to hit at the end then, because at the end of the bridge, when she performs the chorus for the last two times, she was crying while she was recording it and they left it in.
