lady gaga will have always blacklash. and this video is really different from her other work and it is her best video to date. Who compares this to madonna is unfair.
every pop singer should thank madonna for what she has done but this video is so not madonna.
madonna was /is always supersexy in her video while lady gaga can look pretty ( pokerface) or like a monster ( bad romance, alejandro) Also the meaning of their works is different.
But i really dislike people who say that this is all about the shock value ( the same was told about madonna - like a prayer).. this isn't true. there is a real meaning behind this video and if you don't understand it ..well.. this show how much intelligent you are.
who cares about the blacklash!? in 10 years people will see this video as one of the most icon video of pop music .

watch it again in 1080p, it is just amazing, now can't imagine video for "dance in the dark" she can use the most expensive cameras in the world like she used at the beginning of "Alejandro".
LOL @ your signature. I bet even GaGa herself couldn't analyze her videos correctly. There's definitely a skill to what she does but I'm so tired of people acting like she's some sort of savant. She's more a pop star than a visionary and she needs to realize that. People are starting to get fatigued of her shtick.

I'm tired of music videos that are just "there" to supplement the song. I like that she pushes the boundaries and blurs the lines between the MV and short film.
I agree that Gaga's music is often not the deepest, and is a bit overrated, but as someone who has studied arts and covered short film, I have to say that it's very good video and well thought out, not to mention beautifully shot. If Gaga wrote a song about stifled homosexuality and its relationship with religion and then did a video about it it would have been corny and predictable. Sometimes even just a line or a sentiment from a song is enough to make the connection for me.
I don't think it's "pretentious" because pretentious would just be trying to act all deep but having no substance to it, whereas this definitely has substance. If someone can write a short essay like that reviewer did about your video, and for it to make perfect sense, it's not
