I think she's evolved vocally. Everything we've heard so far has featured a new huskiness to her voice.

You're right and I think she's evolved and gotten better vocally, I just think the sound is redundant and a little contrived at this point. But I've learned never to judge Rihanna by her singles because her album tracks are often the best.

Not really. Rihanna doesn't have a "sound", it's her distinct voice that connects all of her music. Rihanna has always been a musical chameleon who has served entirely different sounds for every record she releases. This current song just sounds like something in the area of 'Pour It Up'. She's already done it, she doesn't need to do it again.
