NG Presents: NG's Top 30 Albums of 2008 (#9-7)
9. Does It Offend You, Yeah? - You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into
Released: March 24, 2008.
Best Tracks: Being Bad Feels Pretty Good, We Are Rockstars, Let's Make Out, Weird Science, Epic Last Song

Does It Offend You, Yeah? is one of the bands to watch out for this year. Their electronic sound proves that people can rock out to their music. If I were to say what they sound like, the band probably sounds like Bloc Party crashing into the music of Justice.
You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into has many great tracks from the video game inspired opener "We Are Rockstars" to the Daft Punk energizer, "Weird Science." My favorite track from the album is "Being Bad Feels Pretty Good" since it's very Bloc Party-esque. It is one of the few tracks with full vocal and it's catchy as hell. Other tracks like "Let's Make Out" defines a darker with a sound close to Nine Inch Nails dark synths which sounds pretty contrived.
You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into offers a quick and dirty, delicious noise that make electro fans like me play it over and over.
8. Mariah Carey - E=MC˛
Released: April 8, 2008.
Best Tracks: Last Kiss, Side Effects (Feat. Young Jeezy), Migrate (Feat. T-Pain), Touch My Body, I Stay in Love

I love Mariah Carey. Her song "We Belong Together" was crowned the number one joint of 2005. This year she is back with a follow-up,
E=MC˛, which proves that Mariah Carey can still hit the high notes. The first single, "Touch My Body" showcases a simple yet elegance vocal performance that is playful and fun. The ballads are the highlight on this album with tracks like "Last Kiss", "Side Effects", and "I Stay in Love", all show an emotional side of Carey whether she is in love, going through a bad divorce, or mesmerizes by a kiss. A hot collaboration between the disgusting T-Pain and Mariah actually works! "Migrate" is definitely an "It's Like That" of
E=MC˛, I mean, the beat is hot and Mariah can make some serious anthem out of this song. Too bad, she overlooked that and picked one of the snoozefest tracks like "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" as a single. Overall, the album is a relaxed yet confident effort that Mariah is willing to put out for her Mimi fans.
7. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
Released: January 22, 2008.
Best Tracks: Time to Pretend, Electric Feel, Kids, Of Moons, Birds & Monsters

Oracular Spectacular is a debut album that has buzzed the music scene as one of the best albums of 2008. MGMT has succeeded that expectation because they treat this record as if it's their only shot at glory. The first single "Time to Pretend" is a huge, epic sounding spaced-out pop with a psychedelic twist that begins by wishing for the rock star lifestyle. The next track "Electric Feel" is a sassy yet goofy song with choruses filled with spunk. "Kids," meanwhile, heavily relies on the same synth line with lyrics on a life of youth not to mention how catchy the track is.
Oracular Spectacular produces an energy that somehow comes together as one, making the whole album so radio-friendly and yet still be praised by millions of music lovers.
My epic top ten joints start tomorrow so please stay tuned.
