Can someone try to recommend some epic fantasy for me?
I love Game Of Thrones so much and I've been trying to find something to tide me over until WOW (
) but nothing compares.
I need a book with lots of complicated characters (preferably multi-POV) and as little magic as possible (I find magic to be "cheating.")
I recently read the following and didn't like any of them:
- Chris Wooding: The Braided Path (this was by far the best of the books I tried, it was OKAY.)
- Ken Follett: Pillars Of The Earth (Boring. 1100 pages of building cathedrals.)
- Miles Cameron: The Red Knight (What an awful book. It was mostly just one big battle. I like battles but it shouldn't take up three quarters of the book. And the female characters were pathetic.)
- Kelley Armstrong: Sea Of Shadows (Sadly, I'm too old for YA books now.)
- Veronica Roth: Allegiant (See above. I only read this cuz I'd read the first two a couple years back.)
- Steven Erikson: Gardens Of The Moon + Deadhouse Gates (Literal nonsense. Nothing made sense. Characters died and came back to life constantly which made it feel very low stakes. The magic system was unbearable. I was rooting for most of the main characters to die.)
- Mark Lawrence: Prince Of Fools (Yawn.)
Please help me!
