100 BEST SONGS EVER · #40 - 37
♫"We've come too far to give up who we are. So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars."♫
40 · DAFT PUNK f/ PHARRELL, "Get Lucky" Debut Date: July 6, 2013 Weeks on Chart: 9 Weeks Peak Position: #01[1]
Before "Get Lucky" smashed everyone's charts last year, I have only known Daft Punk for "One More Time" which was released when I was still 9. House music was not a fad back then so I didn't pay much attention following the duo's releases. However, this one received heavy rotation on radio stations making me love it so badly. Infectious beats, catchy hooks and repetitive lyrics - perfect!
FLASHBACK 2012: MAROON 5, "One More Night" 2011: SELENA GOMEZ & THE SCENE, "Who Says" 2010: JUSTIN BIEBER, "Never Let You Go" 2009: JAMES MORRISON f/ NELLY FURTADO, "Broken Strings"
♫"You’re not the only one so let them criticize. You’re untouchable when you realize."♫
39 · ROBIN THICKE f/ T.I. & PHARRELL, "Blurred Lines" Debut Date: June 1, 2013 Weeks on Chart: 9 Weeks Peak Position: #01
An ultimate grower hit. I've come to known "Blurred Lines" when its music video was released but I really find it totally uninteresting and boring. Months passed by and it gained popularity on radio and music channel. That was the time I started to appreciate this brilliant R&B masterpiece. It might draw flak from some people, but I really find it irresistible. Third back-to-back appearance courtesy of Pharrell.
FLASHBACK 2012: DAVID GUETTA f/ SIA, "Titanium" 2011: NE-YO, "One In A Million" 2010: RIHANNA, "Rude Boy" 2009: LADY GAGA, "LoveGame"
♫"And now it's clear as this promise that we're making two reflections into one. 'Cause it's like you're my mirror, my mirror staring back at me."♫
38 · JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, "Mirrors" Debut Date: March 23, 2013 Weeks on Chart: 10 Weeks Peak Position: #04
Following his it-got-old-one-me-so-fast comeback single "Suit And Tie", JT followed it up with a song that truly defined the music of 2013. Of all the singles from 20/20, I actually think this is the only one that stood out. Yes, the other singles are decent but "Mirrors" is so epic it's just so hard to top. Aside from its meaningful lyrics and soulful rendition, its emotional music video truly helped the song to be one of 2013's best.
FLASHBACK 2012: TAYLOR SWIFT f/ THE CIVIL WARS, "Safe And Sound" 2011: CHRIS BROWN f/ JUSTIN BIEBER, "Next 2 You" 2010: JAY SEAN f/ NICKI MINAJ, "2012 (It Ain't The End)" 2009: MARIAH CAREY, "Obsessed"
♫"What if you and I just put up a middle finger to the sky. Let them know that we're still rock 'n roll."♫
37 · AVRIL LAVIGNE, "Rock N Roll" Debut Date: August 31, 2013 Weeks on Chart: 11 Weeks Peak Position: #01[1]
Avril Lavigne returns to the music scene by coming back to her roots. I do not get it why a lot of people did not like this direction, but I am actually adored to see Avril doing such songs once again as I grew up listening to her singles off her first two albums. What I like about this track is that it showcased Avril's signature pop rock style. Hope her succeeding releases will be more successful.
FLASHBACK 2012: CHRISTINA PERRI f/ JASON MRAZ, "Distance" 2011: SARA BAREILLES, "Gonna Get Over You" 2010: JAY SEAN f/ SEAN PAUL & LIL WAYNE, "Do You Remember" 2009: KERI HILSON f/ NE-YO & KANYE WEST, "Knock You Down"
