"Last Kiss" is perhaps the saddest of Taylor's many heartbroken ballads. Clocking in at over six minutes long, this tearjerker recounts the phase following a rough break-up where you start to miss your former lover. "Last Kiss" is the sequel to the angst-driven "Forever & Always" off of Fearless, telling us that Taylor has moved from anger and frustration, to sadness. The song's shining moment comes (as is frequent in Taylor's music) during the middle bridge, where She sighs, "I'll watch your live in pictures like I used to watch you sleep, and I'll feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe." It's two parts creepy, one part romantic.

When Speak Now was released in 2010, the blues-influenced "Dear John" was its talking point. Believe it or not, back then critics thought that this was the highest high that Taylor would ever reach as a songwriter. The song tackles a love gone wrong with ferocity, vengeance seeping from the scathing line, "Don't you think I was too young to be messed with?" The song manages to live up to its designation as a 'torch song,' seeing as it builds up to the masterful lyric "I'm shining like fireworks over your sad, empty town." Speaking of sad, empty towns, has anyone heard of John Mayer since, like, 2010? Mayer claims that the song is "cheap" and that he doesn't deserve its lashings (nevermind the fact that he ignores the lovestruck "Superman" and "Ours," instead choosing only to address the song that makes him look bad). But if Taylor thought that John deserved this, then I'm inclined to believe Her.

Last Kiss is much better than Dear John but ok! Pretty flawless top 10 though.
