Here's a taste of what's to come on this week's countdown, for August 17, 2009:
- After a solid debut at #3 last week, Shakira looks to use her supernatural powers to overtake Kings of Leon for the top spot. Is lycanthropy still in or are you past the werewolf phase?
- After taking a hit last week, Taylor Swift looks to regain her composure and catch the competition off guard with "You Belong With Me". Does Taylor Swift have what it takes to get her second #1 single of '09?
- It's been a while since we've seen Mariah Carey on the countdown, but this week she finally debuts with the first single off of her new album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. Where did you vote her, and is this the beginning of a long stint on the countdown for MC or are you not "Obsessed" with the song yet?
- And finally, after 20 long, non-consecutive weeks, Kings of Leon have finally made it to retirement. Can the boys continue their chart dominance on the way out, gaining their fourth week in a row at #1, or did Green Day spoil the Followill's going away party?
The answers to all of those questions will be answered, plus we get a countdown debut by the up-and-coming band SafetySuit.
