All he said was that it was an authentic and honest record. The analog statement was more so talking about the vibe of the recording sessions.
A surprise release would bring her comparisons to Beyonce, and it would further push her to possibly not having any longevity past debut week because her first weeks are usually her biggest weeks. But that's just on the marketing side, all the things you're talking about are marketing tactics (and it definitely works amazing for Beyonce).
I think she's focusing on the musical aspect of it, and to be fair, analog style doesn't have much to do with genre as it does to do with the vibe/feel of the sessions she's doing.
TLDR: Don't read too much into it.
She has only released 1 pop album in the past 5 yrs: ARTPOP
