It's so funny cos Christina is a lot more known and loved in countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Djibouti, Tanzania and Botswana. Genie in a Bottle was one of the top songs of 1999 in multiple African countries and she's been quite successful ever since. Every country I've lived in, they know her songs, sing her songs and play her songs on the radio. My cousins even told me how much everyone was loving Your Body when it was released.

I remember when I went back to Lagos for a little bit and I asked my school teachers if they had ever heard Baby One More Time. They thought it was some kind of ****o. I almost got in trouble.

Xtina was huge when I was in Benin in high school. I think she was the only act from the bubble gum era that found fame and success in Africa. She's definitely more global in that aspect.

But in Cameroon Janet was pretty big during the janet. era. They loved "Throb" because of its African inspired choreography. When I moved to Benin, Janet was massive during TVR and AFY. We did a few of her dance routines in a talent show.

Listen here, you! We here in Africa are a rhythmic people. We respond most to those artists who come here and show us what they're made of. We don't look at the charts, if you can't bring it on the stage we don't use you. Britney, of course. At least I can certainly say, that in Mexico, Janet is virtually unknown (some people know she's MJ sister, but don't know her music), and 99% of the population (excluding rural areas) know who Britney is and what songs she sings.
