I don't like Wendy but she spilled some tea here. Rihanna will never have Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Madonna (...) status. She is good for right now but I am not sure if she'll still be cool in a few years.
Rihanna is still young..and has a whole lot of time to reach legend status.
She's saying that now, but Rih has been in this industry for 11 years with a few bumps and bruises in her career but she still keeps going. That what makes a legend..
Rihanna just doesnt have that special something that a "legend" has..i dunno what it is but one thing i do know is she hasnt the vocal ability of a "legend" an after seeing her performance at tonights Brit Awards im more sure than ever she one of the most overrated artists in the industry at present.
Wendy is so messy putting the only two relevant black women in the industry against each other.
And EVEN if Rihanna isn't a Legend in her own right, she'll be a Legendary simply through Beyonce's legacy because its at a point where people can't even TALK about Rihanna's or Beyonce's Legacy without bringing the other up. Its like they're legacies are intertwined with each other. The Ying and Yang of music.

You don't even need "Exceptional" Talent to be a Legend. You just have to be seared into the public consciousness. (See: Marilyn Monroe, Billie Holliday, etc.) No one in our lifetime is going to forget about Rihanna. Its just not going to happen. She's already broken so many records and won so many awards in the music industry and effortlessly transitioning into fashion industry. Her presence will be felt for decades. I mean shes the only black woman to get ANY Hot 100 #1's since 2008?
Rihanna has already been a legend since We Found Love. After a decade of non stop hits people are still doubting RIhanna, 'She is good for right now' She is the superstar songstress of this generation, everything she touches becomes an instant hit. There is no other girl that can do what she does.
Unless something earth-shattering and out of extraordinary happens on her path i don't see her becoming a legend. History has taught that pop stars usually leave a big mark/impact on the first years of their career or in their peak (which take place on the youth). Rihanna is 10 years into her career and has contribuitted with everything she could, it's literally about milking the cow from now on AND trying to brake that Mimi record. That will be her last milestone.

That last sentence is sad While I don't like all of her songs, I grew up with her music. And the fact that she is so successful as a black female in the US and UK means a lot to me personally.
This woman is talking out of her ass, wasn't even gonna discuss what she said 'cause she should just be ignored.
First of all, #1s are not awards, they are a measured reflection of the public reception of a song, different things. Second, legend status? Why are we discussing that? Rihanna doesn't need that scrutiny at a relatively early point of her artistic career but that woman is out of her mind if she thinks Rihanna cannot be a recognized legend. Why wouldn't she be a legend? Because she has some fun songs? Are we gonna gonna ask Rihanna to make "super serious" music in order for her to be called a legend or ask her to be in plain dresses? C'mon! Look at the catalogue of well-recognized legends, you'll indeed find "fun", "carefree" songs like she has or that at various points of their careers they played with a "not serious" image.
We should just let Rihanna do her thing and probably hand Wendy a book or some links so she stops talking non-sense in her show.
I'm a mega Rihanna fan. I'm also unbiased. People need to be unbiased. But I 100% agree with Wendy. Most people, use the word "legend" so loosely. People don't know the true meaning and definition of what a legend is. Perhaps it's just the society that we live in now that people think other people are legends. Aside from tons of #1's ( that doesn't make her a legend) she has not contributed to the music industry in any way, shape, or form.. Unlike true legends that actually has changed the way the music industry works, music itself, socially etc. Young people, like most on here, really don't see the big picture, in young myself, but I have common sense and knowledge. I wish people were unbiased so they can see the bigger picture

WTF, you're kidding right?
That's the problem with pop fans, it gets hard to defend your favorite artists when many people attack commercial music. You probably should be comparing Rihanna's music to classics from various genres to see how strong it really is and not dismiss it like that.
