I don't understand why you guys keep diminishing her success. You haters are the reason why she seems even bigger than she is, because the more you doubt her, the bigger her success will seem. Hasn't she proven you wrong enough times? It's time to accept the fact that a singer you dislike is on top.

you can't be serious, I'm actually convinced you're a troll and probably hate Katy

Wow, don't insult Katy like that. I don't ever see Katy having to be carried by bigger, more relevant artists or bands. I also don't see her having to cancel tours or straight up being incapable of touring. Katy bears no relation to Xtina's career trajectory.
OT: she'll be remembered for her catchy catchy pop songs, her cutesy-outfits and relatable, quirky personality. Not really something of legacy, but that's what she'll be remembered for.

no one is diminishing her success though? I think we all can accept that she's very successful but success =/= icon, impactful nor legendary

As the third most successful pop girl of right now (Behind Taylor and Adele)
|
At the moment, she doesn't have a legacy. The artists who leave behind legacies are the artists who were trendsetters and trailblazers, not trend followers and safe players. She has a dozen or so hit songs, but her album sales are weak, she has no acclaim, and she's not seen as anything other than another pretty pop girl.
That can be changed, but it'll depend on her next few records.

Just because recurrent airplay is a fraction less for certain songs doesn't make them less of a classic. Everyone under the sun knows toxic/bad romance is iconic. I like Katy and somewhat appreciate her, but there's no denying nobody really finds her songs to be that 'classic' genius pop which propels a song to legendary level.
She will be known for being 'fun'. Take what you will, but she will never be known for being innovative or genius which many of her peers have already established.

Her music which will definitely be remembered years/decades from now? (Someone who will still post on ATRL in 20 years bookmark this. Maybe the OP?)

Tell me, what defines an icon? Because apparently she's the most checked out musician of 2015 according to Nielsen, and she didn't release anything. And let's not forget the Dark Horse clones that began circulating in 2014.

No one is really diminishing her success. She's factually a very successful artist but she hasn't really brought anything new to the table when it comes to music, artistry and impact. Her songs are successful but not game-changing. Neither is her artistry.
There isn't really a "legacy" from her because she hasn't carved one out. She has always played it safe and formulaic.

Why is this thread still open? I gave the one and only legit answer. The left shark.
Now close this.

Don't most pop girls have one platinum song? Even Iggy got one I think

The left shark was just a fad trend that was popular for like two months last year, stop trolling.
She has some of the strongest recurrent sales among her peers and she's extremely global, I don't understand what these haters want

Exactly, I don't understand why the Kat's can't seem to grasp this. Nobody is saying she is a flop, people are just saying her music is too safe to be ever reminisced in a way which makes people go 'wow, she really did something that time which changed things'. When you think of songs like crazy in love and toxic you do think these things, whether you like the artist or not.
Cementing a legacy is not only a product of recurrent airplay/sales, which some kats in here seem to think. In that case anyone could be a legend.

They're looking for a non-sales stat, like trends she's started or artists she's influenced, I think.

Iconic-ness, if you want a definition, is DEFINITELY not only a product of recurrent airplay/sales.

So? Adele brought nothing new to the game, Gaga brought nothing new to the game, but they can be considered icons as well. Adele for her music everyone knows, and Gaga for her dresses (and for her huge hits). Katy's most famous songs are just as familiar as Adele's to the GP, are you trying to deny Adele is an icon now?
