Far from it. Her desperation to appear "relateable" and "down to earth" is very apparent, especially as of late. She's just as strategic about her image as any other pop star is.



As far as the OP goes, she's the safest artist out there and has only released generic radio candy era after era, so what exactly would she need to tone down?

When you put it that way it's obvious that she is this generation's Madonna/MJ. Gaga, Rih and Nicki all flopped with their crazy costumes, songs and videos. Katy is just too powerful and she isn't afraid to still be herself.
