She was probably just looking out for Tupac. Keep in mind another rapper, Eazy E, died around his time iirc, from undiagnosed AIDS.

People don't die from HIV or AIDS. Yep, HIV affects the immune system of a person badly if it's not treated, after a long time, AIDS comes and suppresses that system and a few opportunists illness can take advantage of that and eventually kill the person.

oh ffs y'all, it was 1993 when there was still very little (correct) information out about HIV/AIDS. Yes people knew more then they did in the 80s when the whole AIDS scare started but still, they didn't know much. And there was no internet to easily spread information about the illness, so many people were still in the dark about it and how it was contracted. Remember Freddie Mercury was the first major celebrity to die of AIDS and that was only in late 1991, and from what I'm seeing this movie was shot in 1992, probably only months afterwards, so people were in a panic.

There was supposed to be a sex scene in Poetic Justice hence why Janet asked Tupac to take a HIV test. Tupac didn't want to get tested so that resulted in no sex scene, and only a kiss.
