The much loved big cat was wounded by an arrow after he was allegedly lured out of the national park by the hunter's bait. After spending two days tracking the injured beast, Cecil was eventually found and shot dead. The corpse was then skinned and the head hacked off as a trophy
Seriously, someone should lure him out from wherever he's hiding, behead him and put his head on the entrance of the park. Absolutely sickening.
This bastard!!! I hope his career is ruined!
I cannot stand hunters who do it out of entertainment, sport, and trophy.
That poor lion was walking around for 40 hours with in arrow in it's body
If he had a permit, so what? It's not poaching if it was done legally. Hunting lions is legal in Zimbabwe. The hunting party claims they had a permit but the government claims the landowner wasn't allotted a lion this year.
Before hating on this guy, let's see if the charges are true. Don't go off half-cocked.
Everything this dentist did was legal... even luring the lion off the property. (I know, don't even get me started.)
But what is very illegal is hunting or killing an animal that is collared or has a tracking collar.
The lion was collared, and the collar was illegally removed after the dentist shot, killed, and beheaded the animal.
So, yeah, this guy is going to jail or will be paying HUGE fines or both. He's over.
And I'm tired of hearing that hunting is a wholesome asset for proper conservation everywhere. It's a damn lie. Luring a lion off a conservation and killing it affects the whole pride and does not do anything for the conversation of ANY species. Even the hunting of deer in some parts of the US has adverse affects. The Florida panther's main source of food is deer, and the human hunting of deer in that area has been one of the contributing factors of the panthers current extreme endangerment.
It's not sick and twisted, it's wholesome and a valuable asset to conservation everywhere.
Typical "conservation" excuse that hunters use.
Either way, why can't hunters use a rifle and end the animal's life immediately? Why use a arrow and have that lion suffer for 40 hours and then shoot it?

...Vin
I don't know about Zimbabwe, but in many countries shooting a collared lion isn't illegal. In fact, some activists have been putting collars on trophy males just to deter hunters, not for any real research (his doesn't seem smart - if hunters think the collars are a bull**** anti-hunting measure, they might ignore them). It can also be hard to spot a collar from a hunting position under a thick mane.

He was the most "beloved" lion in Zimbabwe so yes he was indeed collared, which is ILLEGAL to hunt, I bet the hunter didn't knew the lion was lured or was collared but it dosen't matter and bravo for his name being exposed, now everyone looking for him on the net will see this disgusting news.
