Unlike rock artists, urban artists actually have a shot at cracking the top 10 or even going #1. This might be a bit OT but the comparison makes no sense, rock music has been completely dead in the top 40 market since the early 00s and it doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon.
The top 40 market is just too pop-oriented. Anyone who wishes to have a #1 needs to "tone it down" and make it sound pop. It's not as obvious as the pre-Adele times but it's just the way it is.
