No, henny. Gaga already stated that Applause was set to be released on 26th Aug along with video. Katy only hyped it for a while. But once the date for releasing Applause was set, it's no coincidence that Roar was set to released 2 weeks earlier before Applause.
But then Roar got leaked 2 days before official release, right? Unfortunately, Applause got leaked 2 weeks earlier before official release and her team decided to push it one week earlier. Gaga and her team are not that stupid enough to overshadow Katy.

Applause was meant to be released on the 19th, not the 26th. Katy had been keeping hush hush about new music but that didn't mean she didn't already have a date planned. Just because Gaga hypes everything like a year in advance doesn't mean Katy didn't have everything ready to go behind the scenes. She never would have set the dates if the material wasn't ready.
Regardless, Roar leaked on August 10th, two days before its official release. Applause "started leaking" (most likely by Gaga or Gaga's camp) on the 10th which is why it was pushed forward a week and released on the 12th. Only two small snippets had leaked, it wasn't anything crazy. It could have just caused hype and there was no need to rush release anything (artists release snippets of their songs all the time), but Gaga pushed her song forward to try to overshadow Katy under the false claim that it was a "pop music emergency". There was no emergency, there was no need to rush-release anything. In hindsight it's easy to say "they wouldn't be that stupid", but they genuinely thought that Gaga's Applause would ring louder than Katy's Roar. It unfortunately backfired.

I mean, I guess I can appreciate the lesson that it taught her and I like the music, but I'd rather she got her **** together four years ago than go through that ****ed up era.

I mean I'm not necessary happy that it happened, but I agree with what you're saying in the OP....some good has come out of it. She got a little too cocky at times during the BTW era and I think she needed a reality check to show that she's not invincible. We all need bad times to appreciate the good times better, and learn/grow from them. Experiencing that downfall, and then rising back up I think really helped her as an artist. After she hit rock bottom and she went on the ArtRave tour, she started seeming happier and happier.

I hope she goes back to basics, it's what the public is here for.
If she doesn't want full pop then I hope she at least goes catchy but dark à la Fame Monster.

I love every moment of Gaga's career.
Even when she's a mess, she's more entertaining (and probably more successful) than most other pop artists out there.
Can't wait for comeback.

Yes. It's a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better album than BTW for me. And by that, I mean I only liked Judas & The Edge in her sophomore. While I love most of ARTPOP

I am tbh, her career had been heading down a dark path ever since the BTW era. Can you imagine the level of mess LG5 would be if ARTPOP smashed? I don't even want to think about it.
If the C2C era and her insta are any indication, though, things are on the mend.

Imagine if the Artpop sequel had been released? Maybe it would have had some nice songs, but I think it was best just to turn a new page.
Rooting for you, Gaga

We all know what a mess ARTPOP was. Her team tried to rush release Applause to overshadow Roar but Roar ends up completely destroying it. The album is critically panned and fails to go platinum, sending her into a depression that causes her to go into a media blackout in the middle of an era. Feeling bad for her fans, she decides to release a high budget mini movie full of fan favorites from the album. This does not breathe any life into the era, in fact it was the final nail on the coffin.
Despite this though, I'm glad it all happened. It humbled her. It taught her that she wasn't invincible anymore and that if she wants to be successful again she has to put in the effort. Without the public backlash from the album, she would've continued doing whatever the **** she wanted and her music quality probably would've continued to spiral downwards. Not to mention we got like 13 great songs and 2 great vids from the era, and some amazing performances. It was a rude awakening for her as she had never had a real flop before then.
Now she's back in the studio with RedOne, performing across the country with Tony and she looks happier than ever. It was a dark time for her, but everybody hits rock bottom eventually. Now the only place to go is up.
If you could, would you delete the ARTPOP era from existence? If you did, Gaga would most likely still be the HBIC but you would never hear Applause, Venus, Do What U Want, Gypsy, etc. You would never get to experience the artRAVE, you would never get your life watching Swinefest on that sh***y stream. Or maybe you're like me and you're glad it happened, as it brought her back down to Earth, gave us some great songs and brought her passion for pop music back? We all know she's not one to go down without a fight.
Anyway spill the tea sistrens

you lost me completely here, bye sis
Gaga's depression started BEFORE ARTPOP was announced and it was because of her bts problems with her manager, not because ARTPOP flopped That was the cherry on top for Gaga, what kind of flop fan ?

Roar was so huge it even overshadowed Katy's own next single She should've picked a different week for Applause

I enjoyed watching her flop tbh, and ARTPOP is also her best album so it was kind of a win-win situation.
