Back To Basics sold 3.7 million copies according to her label. It SHIPPED 4.3 million copies. Christina is not going to win with such big names controlling the music industry. No what makes hits is the longevity of a single. Brit's 1 week @ #1 then falling into oblivion has no impact. Christina sold huge as well so they were rivals but not a threat. A threat is somebody that could easily replace you and take you out the game. A rival is more like a peer. Big difference. Brit could never and will never take Christina out. Thats my point. but this thread is about Chrisina so let's get back to subject. I don't see much success for this album. Back To Basics sold 3.7 million copies and only had one top 10 single that peaked at #06. An artists lead single usually debuts at number one.

Example.

Britney- Womanizer and 3
Beyonce- Single Ladies
Katy Perry- I Kissed A Girl
Lady Gaga- Just Dance
Ke$ha- Tik Tok

and many more. Christina has had two big hits [Aint No Other Man and Keeps Gettin' Better] and she has had mild hits [Hurt and Candyman] since the release of her 2002 album Stripped. She hasn't had a HUGE Hit since 'Lady Marmalade'. Stripped was on it's way to be a flop as well. Beautiful saved the album though. Back To Basics was a mild success but a HUGE flop. Why would it be any different this time? It might even go worse for her because she's so irrelevant right now. She's going to need a smash lead single and alot of promotion if she wants to do average with this album but she won't own anybody

Well "Womanizer" spent 1 week at #1 but still had longevity on the charts as did "3" (10 weeks in the top 10) but aside from that, I agree that she and Gaga are PEERS rather than threats to her career. With the right material Christina can still do well and they can all co-exist together, but Christina has to bring her A game this time and have singles that come harder than "Aint No Other Man" and "Keeps Getting Better".

LOL. "The Evolution" was released in the christmas season with 2 singles and "Back To Basics" still ended up with more in the long run with even less singles released.
