It doesn't matter how much head start you had for 2 years, when everybody is running over you.

Because it's mostly fans, teenagers and kids who stream on youtube. Gaga has too weird/vague, dark and revealing videos. Telephone long had a 18+ limit, for example.

How have they been clocked? Hips Don't Lie has 220M views. A video like that for a song as successful as that released in 2015 would hit 800M easily.



The main reason is that streaming is so much bigger these days. Her earlier singles released in 2015 would have fared much better (in fact, I believe Poker Face did, but one version was removed). Then her recent albums haven't had singles with much streaming appeal.

Lady Gaga had the most viewed video of all-time on YouTube with Bad Romance in 2010. She was also the first person to ever surpass 1 billion combined views.

This proves how much of a streaming phenomenon she was back then. Streaming is much more widespread now and her music videos are not easily digestible compared to her peers.

Oh and every music video of hers from Just Dance to Bad Romance was uploaded on YouTube BEFORE VEVO was launched. (end of 2009) There's a lot of views missing from those.
