For the people who don't understand why this is racist, understand that racism doesn't always have to be conscious. We live in a eurocentric society where this idea of beauty and goodness was intentionally ingrained through centuries of laws, stories, media, etc. that "Whiteness" is the standard and what we are to aspire to. There have literally been black women who have lost jobs because their natural hair was seen as "unprofessional".
Guiliana is perpetuating the same racialized perceptions of people of color whether she consciously realizes it or not, simply because these are so deeply conditioned in our thinking that it takes no effort to reproduce itself.
And Zendaya better go AWF. I'm really proud of her for writing that post, because it's important to me that women of color aren't encouraged to believe that their natural hair isn't beautiful.
