In depth analysis because I have nothing else to dooooooooo!!
Roar Intro: She didn't lie when she said her intro/exit were never done before. I think the 'flaming hot' costume was tacky, she should have stuck with the jungle outfit for the intro (it's far more appealing). I didn't want her to open with this song because I felt like it was too predictable, but it actually worked out great here.
Dark Horse: The staging was superb, the chess pieces/costumes were well made. The floor effect of her falling sideways was cool too. It was a good transition from Roar.
I Kissed A Girl: I'm glad she did the song but again idk WHY Lenny is singing the song, besides the fact that she won't get a FCC complaint for singing it by herself. She should have let him sing Fly Away. She literally used him just to sing the song and make it less controversial. Kind of sad he deserved better.
Teenage Dream: I think she should have sang Hot N Cold here instead, but she loves this song (and so does Bonnie) but it's not really Superbowl appropriate. It's one of her best songs but she didn't HAVE to perform it. Hot N Cold was a hit too and upbeat.
California Girls: Picks off where Teenage Dream left off, not bad but again nothing amazing. This was her weaker section imo. Even though the crowd sang parts of the song with her, this is where "Nickoledoen" crept in. I knew she was gonna do a mash-up of these two songs, but I think she should have took a risk by skipping Teenage Dream, and then go into Last Friday Night into a Missy-segue.
Get Ur Freak On: The "MIssy do your thang" shout out looked kind of awkward
even MIssy looked at her like, "Bitch will you be quiet so I can perform." otherwise Missy did her thing
Work It/Lose Control: I like the jersey they were wearing and I'm GLAD Katy let Missy have her dancers with her (obviously). They looked good and added some depth to the performance. This had the most energy idk how people keep saying Missy didn't steal the show. Yeah it was Katy's night but Missy definitely elevated the performance to higher heights.
Firework: Again, it was predictable she'd end with Firework. Not a bad choice and I guess it's a good closer... but idk I would have preferred something else. You guys are gonna hate me but she should have just ended with THIS IS HOW WE DO. Imagine the fireworks and bright lights to that song and everyone jumping around on the stage.
Overall not bad, she could have taken some risks and really tried to push the envelope but instead gave an overall good performance. The stage production was even better than Madonna's but Madonna had the better songs and set-list order imo. But grats to Katy it was visually entertaining like she promised and nothing went wrong so it was a success
