However, given everything that happened with Madonna recently, artists should just not put ANY of their unreleased/unfinished work on servers and keep everything offline. That's how Watch the Throne was released without a single leak (well, there was a LQ leak of a couple songs that someone recorded with their phone but that doesn't count really).

Yeah, you're right. For all we know, that's how some of these artists have had songs leak in the past.
I also agree that it's not a good idea for artists to put any of their unreleased material into their email or anything like that because they're putting it at risk. Especially artists who have previously had songs leak online, I think it's a bad idea. There are other ways to get it to your collaborators, and even if that's the easiest way to reach them, you're putting your work at risk by doing that.
