I don't see how general practitioners are overpaid, when GP is like the lowest paid specialty in medicine, and I'm convinced that it's undervalued, in part, because of sexism, just like teaching, which is dominated by women. In the US, part of the reason why RN's are paid so well is because there's a shortage of them. There are nurses with more degrees than GP's and could very well do their jobs just as well. Plus, it you're a nurse with a PHD, then technically, you are a doctor.
The repercussions of not having a high paid, well respected teaching profession will ripple throughout society. I mean, look @ the US.
