Just because something is successful doesn't mean it's good. That Taylor nailed the same multi-demographic appeal as the likes of 1D (which is really no different from any of the other many Simon Cowell-manufactured boy bands that failed) doesn't actually speak to any sort of ability or quality.

You still make no sense but cute tries.
Name other singer-songwriter-performer who has been at the top for 10 years at the level like Taylor has. I'll be waiting. And if you find some then those people are amongst the greatest NSAI mentioned.
Take your L and lets end this.

She's good.
But one of the greatest? No.
A bit of a reach.

You Didn't Read Revel8's post. She's right! NSAI is the Grammy's of songwriting. It is the most prestigious organization on the matter and it consists of all Songwriters who have the final word. If they state that Swift is one of the greatest, then I would respect their words.

Absolutely. It was a rebuttal against someone citing WANEGBT as a put down, because that song has a repetitive chorus. The reality is that Taylor has more than 100 tracks currently published. You can cherry pick to make a cheap point but songwriters are usually remembered for their best songs, and their worst songs are not the reasons for their acclaim.
NSAI is an organisation that specifically focuses on songwriting and songwriters. That is what they do. They are made up of songwriters. They aim to support songwriters and provide education and workshops in songwriting. They know about songwriting. So praise from them is a big deal in songwriting circles. If some randoms on atrl don't agree, no-one cares because NSAI opinion is from an expert songwriting perspective, not from a stan perspective.
NSAI and the Grammy's all agree about Taylor's talents. Whinging about it on atrl doesn't change that.

I agree.
People be like Beyonce's lyrics are terrible and bring up lyrics like:
Quote:
Who run the world? Girls! [x4]
Who run this motha? Girls! [x4]
Who run the world? Girls! [x4]
Who are we? What we run? The world (who run this motha, yeah)
Who are we? What we run? The world (who run this motha, yeah)
Who are we? What do we run? We run the world! (who run this motha, yeah)
Who are we? What we run? We run the world
Who run the world? Girls
|
Quote:
All the single ladies (All the single ladies)
All the single ladies (All the single ladies)
All the single ladies (All the single ladies)
All the single ladies
Now put your hands up
|
Instead of masterpieces like:
Quote:
Diamonds used to be coal
Look young cause they got soul
That's why they're beautiful
And my heart used to be cold
'Til your hands laid on my soul
|
Quote:
Pretty hurts, we shine the light on whatever's worst
Perfection is a disease of a nation, pretty hurts, pretty hurts
Pretty hurts, we shine the light on whatever's worst
We try to fix something but you can't fix what you can't see
It's the soul that needs the surgery

Once again, you're conflating success with quality. It's obviously not quality that determines whether a work becomes big or establishes long-term success, and your continued citing of the NSAI, an obscure group with no real credence or credibility (their Wiki is a stub, for christ's sake), doesn't really help your case much either. All you're doing is making an appeal to authority fallacy, and to a weak authority at that.

And you not knowing what NSAI is gives your arguments credence? Jesus.
Taylor's success clearly comes with quality music as she has won the biggest award in music- Grammy for Album Of The Year, plus numerous prestigious songwriting awards. Your opinion is just that- your pointless lone opinion.
How much longer you want to be clocked?

No lies spotted
Haters will bring up her Pop singles and use them as a representation of her whole discography, but that's extremely ignorant.

no
i love how five extremely successful albums in that ALL have gotten rave reviews and pressed haters STILL deny it. so stupid tbh
i know it's always a joke when people say that haters are just jealous, but i genuinely think other pop girl fans are so jealous of taylor's commercial and critical success that they're willing to be blatantly blinded to the fact that she is the songwriter of our generation, and anyone who thinks someone else is (gaga, katy, anyone) is REALLY, really amusing to me and the rest of us

I've looked into the NSAI. They're by no means a major or particularly reputable organization. I mean congrats to Taylor for the accolades but it means about as much as praise from my aunt.
And the Grammys, despite their huge name and platform, are not reputable either. The winners of Grammys are decided by old, white committees of industry insiders who pick the safest, most mainstream choices possible so as not to stir up controversy and call into question the legitimacy of the award, thereby making themselves all the more illegitimate. A Grammy is not actually prestigious in the slightest. I mean, Mumford & Sons won Album of the Year, for christ's sake.

Ya, so basically what I got from this thread is Taylor Swift is amongst the greatest songwriters of all times according to her fans, even though she doesnt even appeal to a prominent record buyers group(Men). When a whole demographic of the music buying public wouldnt be caught buying or listening to her stuff, that says something. Shes a pretty good songwriter and one of the best amongst her peers in pop/country, but when taking it literally, saying shes amongst the greatest songwriters of all time is essentially saying that shes in a class with David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, or Niel Young or contemporary acts like Kurt Cobain, Pj Harvey Thom Yorke, and yeah, Kanye. You cant honestly say shes in a class with any of them with a straight face, and if you were to say that infront of someone with a deep rooted interest in music, theyd laugh in your face, regardless of how many tens of billions of first week shipped cds someone sells.
also alot of crap albums have won Album of the Year, using that as an argument doesnt really cut it, and none of her albums have gotten RAVE reviews. Im sure you guys like to scope Metacritic, if I were remember correctly, mid 70s isnt Unanimous acclaim now is it?

It's true. The Speak Now album and half the Red cuts are among the best pieces of songwriting this millennium.
