A Heartfelt Account of Romantic Vulnerability And Surrender To The Inevitable, “Manos Al Aire” Is The Lead Single From Nelly Furtado’s Eagerly Awaited All-Spanish Language Album Mi Plan.
(Miami, FL – June 19, 2009) Universal Music Latino, a division of Universal Music Latin Entertainment (UMLE), the world’s leading Latin music company, today announced plans to release the Nelly Furtado single “Manos Al Aire” (Hands in the Air) to worldwide radio on June 29th, with digital and mobile retail availability to follow the next day. Capturing a woman’s outpouring of vulnerability for the sake of true love, and her eventual surrender to the inevitable, “Manos Al Aire” is the lead single from Nelly Furtado’s eagerly awaited all-Spanish Language album Mi Plan – set for release on September 29, 2009.
The GRAMMY Award-winning artist’s fourth studio album and follow-up to the multi-platinum Loose which propelled Furtado to top all global music sales in 2007, Mi Plan represents the realization of Nelly’s dream to further her natural musical expression in Spanish following acclaimed collaborations with artists such as Juanes and Calle 13. Nelly has done many successful collaborations with artists all over the world in all different genres, but the collaborations with the Latin artists left her with this huge desire of expressing herself in this language, and that is how this album was born. The album will once again demonstrate Furtado’s collaborative abilities, as both a songwriter and co-producer, to work with leading lyricists, producers and guest artists from across the globe in creating uniquely fresh and passionately strong music.
“’Mi Plan’ is my first full collection of Spanish-language pop songs,” explains Furtado. “The songs explore themes of love and the rhythm of everyday life. The featured special guests will also add a unique touch to the album's sound. And I am delighted to be working with the entire Universal Latin team on this new project".
“Nelly is truly an international treasure and we are delighted that she has chosen Universal Music Latin America as the place to begin the next exciting chapter in her already storied career,” stated Jesus Lopez, Chairman & CEO of Latin America and Iberian Peninsula. “And as such, our approach to her new album will exemplify the kind of comprehensive effort we’re uniquely positioned to deliver. People will see Nelly and experience her music in places and ways they’ve never seen before.”
“Nelly is one of the most innovative and dynamic artists in the world,” added Walter Kolm, President of Universal Music Latino and Machete. “Her music, passion and relentless pursuit to challenge both herself and the status-quo make her the consummate artist. The entire company joins us in welcoming her to the Universal Music Latin Entertainment family.”
