All popstars shake their ass and sell sexuality. Beyoncé isn't some special case or twerk inventor. Jennifer Lopez just released a song called Booty, and its accompanying highly sexual video, at the age of 45 for instance. Annie needs to hush because she isn't qualified to say what's feminism or what isn't. Her opinion isn't end all be all.

The movement itself is far too wide with many varying degrees and stances for her to try and pinpoint what and what is not liberating for another woman. Especially seeing as she is not Beyonce herself. How can she try to speak for her?
She is making herself look so stupid and uninformed while trying to come off as intelligent. It is laughable.

It has, and that's a good thing
It's a catch though, when you have elitists like Annie,
and then clueless twinks who **** shame or think that anytime a woman ha her clothes off and expresses her sexuality, it's always about ~THE MALE GAZE~
then, on top of that, you get idiots like me who just come in and write angry essays and post gifs
It's kind of hard to have a stimulating discussion on the topic in this kind of environment

It's time for the white feminist movement to stop focusing on what they think Bey is doing wrong and focus on what she's doing right. Reaching the masses... Something that they struggled to do
I mean...

And that is the REASON why they can't take. Beyonce has reached the masses. A BLACK woman at that.

I think its becoming painfully obvious that different people interpret this whole feminist thing diffently. And pretty much from different peoples views their definition of it would be said to be correct. Its very conflictive this whole thing.
Anyway i can't for this whole trend to die am tied of hearing about it.

Women like her are a huge part of the reason why people have this negative view on feminist.

Feminism has always been a off topic to me. I dont really get the gist of it , all I know is women attacking other women and bringing them down isn't feminism .

1. "This whole feminist thing" at its surface is not very complex.
It's just about gender equality. It doesn't really get complicated until you factor in the different intersections of different women's lives because of their identities. You just get different ideology.

2. Well I'm sorry that you're so "tied" of hearing about women trying to live comfortably in a world where a system of disadvantage works against them from the time that they're born until they die, but if you're going to decide that you're going to completely distance yourself from advocacy for equal rights, then at least know that this is not "just some trend."
Just because internet activism is getting more people involved and female celebrities are now more willing to have the label attached to them doesn't mean this is "a trend."
It's not "trendy" to be a feminist outside of tumblr.
Literally, you say the word and people go nuts.
Men run away from you and women roll their eyes,
because they don't even know what feminism really is.

I'm not sure if I believe this. It sounds like the exact words she said in the Huffington Post interview with added hateful comments to make a juicy story.
If she did indeed say those comments about twerking, well, she is a hypocrite.

How do you say something like that, and then proceed to do the opposite?
At the end of it all, Beyoncé will be the one who never tore down another woman's feminism and stood to her stance. That is far more commendable than these so called "feminists" who are just tearing each other down and pointing fingers instead of coming together.
All these people on ATRL who run into a Beyoncé thread to tear down everything she does are so predictable and Hypocritical. When Beyoncé is criticized, it's okay to be abrasive and say she's trash and all her fans are HIV positive. But they swear up and down, "No, I'm not hateful towards Beyoncé, I just don't think she's a god. It's all her fans fault, they make us do it!" Y'all are the worst kind of people and shouldn't be acting as if you actually care about equal rights for women so that you could throw some shade and get some co-signs from your fellow fanbase members just to feel better about your pathetic lives."

You're absolutely right with that.
It's just because people have different opinons,
but opinions CAN be wrong and CAN be counter-argumentative.
You have different groups of women who cetainly DO believe in women's rights,
but they still perpetuate ignorant, regressive mentalities.
"Oh, I'm all about women earning equal pay,
but I don't like all that wild stuff. Girls need to cover up.
There's a time and a place."
just like you have Black people who support civil rights, but continue to perpetuate White supremacy's view of what Blackness is and how people should be
"Oh, it's so sad that Trayvon Martin died,
but he shouldn't have been dressed like a thug."
"These young men out here need to pull their pants up!
People marched for y'all!"

This. I love Annie, but she (like many...had this same discussion recently about Emma Watson, too) seems to struggle with not putting the feminist movement and all women that partake in a particular box or category. Labeling who belongs where and what is and isn't is exactly what she's claiming to speak out against; it's the very essence of the "fractionalizing" she speaks of. She is marginalizing based on what behaviors SHE feels is acceptable and who SHE feels fit to discuss instead of accepting and embracing the fact that there are different types of women other than the bra burning, picket sign holding set -- or as Annie would fractionally categorize "feminist heavy" that believe in all the core tenets of feminism and that's ok.
And as for the rest... Whew...truth.
