Like anybody believes you're not after the oil surrounding the Falklands...
The islands may be closer to you but they're still British territory as long as the people living there want it to be.

I'm completely undecided. It'll be a last minute (under pressure) decision for me when voting tomorrow.

They're already EU members. Becoming independent doesn't change that, as long as they don't become North Korea overnight

If I break into your house and I claim I want to live there does that makes your house mine? I hope that's not what they teach you on school there
As for the oil, if they confirm the existence of it there (which hasn't happened yet) Argentina won't let the UK have it all.

The United Kingdom is (for now) an EU member state. Scotland would become an independent country which means independence from the union-member state and so the union itself. They can apply for membership but it will take a few years. However, I imagine they could join the Euro as early as 2015 if they were quick about applying for it.

They didn't break in. It's more like if they found an empty house, made it their own, then several decades later some agitated Spanish-speaking people said "hey that's pretty close to our house, it belongs to us now!"

The first recorded landing on the islands is attributed to English captain John Strong

The Falklands remained uninhabited until the 1764 establishment of Port Louis on East Falkland by French captain Louis Antoine de Bougainville, and the 1766 foundation of Port Egmont on Saunders Island by British captain John MacBride. Whether the settlements were aware of each other's existence or not, is subject to debate among historians. In 1766, France surrendered its claim on the Falklands to Spain
|
Quote:
Both the British and Spanish settlements coexisted in the archipelago until 1774, when Britain's new economic and strategic considerations led it to voluntarily withdraw from the islands, leaving a plaque claiming the Falklands for King George III.
|
Quote:
Thereafter, the archipelago was visited only by fishing ships; its political status was undisputed until 1820, when Colonel David Jewett, an American privateer working for the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata, informed anchored ships about Buenos Aires' 1816 claim to Spain's territories in the South Atlantic. Since the islands had no permanent inhabitants, in 1823 Buenos Aires granted German-born merchant Luis Vernet permission to conduct fishing activities and exploit feral cattle in the archipelago. Vernet settled at the ruins of Puerto Soledad in 1826, and accumulated resources on the islands until the venture was secure enough to bring settlers and form a permanent colony
|
Quote:
Buenos Aires attempted to retain influence over the settlement by installing a garrison, but a mutiny in 1832 was followed the next year by the arrival of British forces who reasserted Britain's rule.

What I meant was they're already members through the UK, so it's not like the EU parliment would dick them around or not approve their application. They would get it with ease

Before the first recording landing, Amerindias from the Patagonia (now part of Argentina and Chile) would travel and land on the Islands and some historians say they may have lived there, so they did broke in.

There were no Indians on the island when the British got there, uninhabited, and prehistoric Indians didn't belong to any nation since Argentina and Argentine culture didn't exist.
It's like Spain trying to claim Gibraltar is their territory

Um yes sis. That is exactly what it's like. Scotland don't only have the UK to worry about. The vote has to be unanimous and countries will protect their own interests. Spain along with many other countries are likely to vote against them, as they are facing potential revolutions themselves. They wouldn't want to embolden the nationalists.

You weren't even there when we first discovered the islands though
And what would Argentina do about it? They have no sovereignty over the islands. Aside from the Argentine government throwing a fit every now and again the sovereignty dispute is very much settled as far as most of the world is concerned.
