You don't have to buy the album. A lot of artists and labels are putting full tracks on Last.fm now, and let's not forget the amazing invention of YouTube. (And of course, Dailymotion and imeem)

Record labels were dumb for putting songs from the album that you can buy
That`s why I think only singles should be on iTunes not albums or indivual songs
Itunes and illegally downloading music are the reason why album sales is declining
They should get rid of illegally downloading sites

Downloading is great. It helps all the artists who need exposure. It hurts all the artists who are already overexposed and don't need more money.

Stop trying to justify stealing music, its against the law so its impossible to justify it. And who cares if someone is "overexposed". They spend money to make music, and they need money back from sales so they can do it AGAIN. And so what if you want check out a artist to see if you like them, theirs no reason why you have to illegally get their music. Go out and listen to it at the store. Their are tons of stores where you can go listen to the album RIGHT in the store. Or you can just go look on youtube for the songs or on iTunes you can get a 30 second preview. And on Rhapsody you can listen to the WHOLE song as a preview. So dont give me that bull about you not wanting to buy a album just to experiemnt if you like them. And so you think just because artists like beyonce, mariah Carey, Rihanna, Britney spears, etc. have TONS of money we dont have to buy their music because they have enough money. Well so then you are saying we shouldnt pay doctoirs and lawyers and dentists money because they have enoguh right?

Theirs a lot of legal issues and stuff, he government have been trying for years to be able to basically get a site that shares music files and shot it off. but then people just make a new one even if they did. they need filters on the internet that down allow the downloading of music files from unliscensed sites that have permission like amazon

If that was possible, don't you think they would have done that already? It might happen soon though now that the RIAA and ISP's are planning on cutting off people's internet service if that person is caught file-sharing. I don't think people should be forced to go back to buying CDs but they should be forced to at least pay for MP3's.

They are cracking down on some of those websites, though. A big one was taken down two or three years ago, Kaaza. (Of course, now they have Diet Kaaza, which is exactly like Kaaza.)

^People can still burn copies of CDs for each other of course, but if we completely make the transition to digital albums and stop producing writable music CD-R's, people will be forced to download their own music and not sharing it. Or the alternative would be for the music industry to push for legislation that cuts them in on the profits of music CD-R's to make up for the loss (they did this with audio casettes in the 80's).

You've gotta think, though, singing is this person's job. Think if you were a barber. What if people were getting you to give them haircuts, BUT they're not paying you. It's the same basic principle here. Now I know a lot of artists don't really care, for example Duffy, but the fact is, is that if more and more people illegally download music instead of legally purchasing or downloading it, then the artist will go broke, or the label will and kick the artist off for not making them any money.

People will buy music because that`s the only way they could own music
you can`t own Youtube (or any other website you could listen to music on)or take it everywhere you go

I don`t think they will switch to digital albums but I do think digital albums will go away soon.
If they do switch to digital albums, i won`t buy albums anymore because I never legally downloded music in my life.
