The author of the book, Lois Lowry has stated that Taylor's role IS very important in the movie even tho it isnt a large part.

This is smart promotion.
Most People will only watch this film for Taylor anyways. The box office of the film completely depends on her, and so its OK to use her for most of the promo.

And i am quite happy with this choice of hers, hope it leads to many more film roles for her.
Taylor already has solid connections in hollywood and this will help her a lot. She has already conquered the music business, so im sure hollywood wont be too difficult for her.

Eventually she will have an Oscar too.

Cant wait for the film... Taylor looks fab...
