The year is 2014 and despite the tens of millions Lady Gaga has helped raise and donate to pro-LGBT organizations around the world, ignorant, upset stans still claim she "exploits the community".
Gaga broke a multi-million dollar contract with Target after they refused to stop funding anti-gay organizations.
Gaga was the only big-name contemporary popstar who actively fought against DADT, which Obama thanked her for.
Part of the reason she had to cancel her show in Jakarta was because of her LGBT support. People wanted to kill her for that.
Gaga has been the only big-name contemporary popstar who has both participated and actively fought in the gay rights movement.
Gaga has and continues to donate $10k every night of her tour to the RE*Generation Campaign, which helps LGBT youth who struggle with homelessness
Gaga has supported the LGBT movement so much that her career has suffered from it.
While every other artist was releasing vague "be yourself" gay anthems, Gaga was the only artist brave enough to actually mention the LGBT community in her song.
In addition to that, BTW was the first #1 song to include the trans* community.
You are absolutely DELUSIONAL beyond belief if you're going to act as if Gaga does nothing in return for the LGBT community. She cannot help that she has so many queer fans, but she can help how much she gives back, which she has done her fair share of. Those who have large LGBT followings, aka every major popstar, and do not give back are the ones who are exploiting.

Madonna stuck with the LGBT community before it was widely accepted. She fought through them with AIDS and was a huge advocate for condom usage. She never seemed to exploit the community either by intentionally making "gay anthems" either.

Gaga's never made a "gay anthem", nor has she even said her song was a gay anthem. That was everyone else while she actively fought against that title because, as she said, the song mentions everyone and not just gay people. Do not forcefully place that label upon her song and then blame her for it.
In addition, there is just as much criticism of Madonna's support as there is Gaga's. She has been slammed for her "exploitation" just as much as Gaga has, but somehow she is more sincere? I mean, Madonna literally latched onto Macklemore, the new hot thing at the moment, and performed with him while they, two straight people, married a bunch of gay people at the Grammys. Is that not exploitation?

You're asking too much of the song though. How was Lady Gaga supposed to release a song that appeals to straight men on the subject of LGBT rights? Another artist could but not Gaga. So does that mean she should not have done it at all? Does that mean that the straight women who sang along could not influence their boyfriends, brothers, friends, fathers, etc.? Does that mean that closeted young gays who heard the song on the radio and felt happy about themselves for once is not a step forward for the gay community? Are the already proudly out gays who sang along with it as their new anthem not also perpetuating positivity and a sense of accomplishment?
Maybe it could be argued that Gaga created more of a barrier between gay and hetero people (I don't see it though), but not every gay rights activism has to be in joining straights and gays. It's super important to love yourself for who you even if you do not have the support of other people. You can't move forward as a community if you're waiting for others to accept you. You must always accept yourself first.

You are reading between the lines and getting it.

Nhat and many others on the other hand, are refusing to look at the bigger picture and want to remain pessimistic in the name of stanning. Bringing up the "Gaga creates a barrier between gay and straight people" thing makes absolutely no sense. That barrier is already there and has been there for decades. Not because of Gaga or any other popstar, but because of society. Gaga's goal has never been to unite the sexualities because that would be a fight to lose, her goal has been to help and support those who are standing on the oppressed side. It's really not that hard to get.
