Madonna's people do not cooperate with Forbes, so they have no idea of her real wealth and income from work and investments.
They put her on the cover of their 1990 October issue, with the heading, "America's Smartest Business Woman?". When she was asked about it she replied, "Forbes knows ****." They've hated her ever since.
I know she's ballin' and all but some same people would be tearing gaga apart if this was gaga's story .
It is what it is - no excuses needed to justify anything .
That's because Gaga's peak was only a few years back and she should still be making money from albums and singles of that period, not to mention she released an album just last year. Madonna's peak was 20-25 years ago; she's a pop veteran who did nothing over the past year.
It's funny how people bring the "she's rich so who cares?" excuse
99% of our faves are so rich they could stop working before the age of 30.
But i don't see excuses like these on them when they fail?
Anyway, that's a huge drop but she did nothing anyway.
No one "cooperates" with Forbes. Forbes has their own methodologies that factor in things such as social networking ranks, press attention, and estimated revenue. They don't ask celebrities for their tax reports or anything.
The Celebrity 100 is self-explanatory. It's about how big of a celebrity you are, not just the money you make. But it sounds like not even Madonna's money was enough to keep her on the list.

During the time frame for last year’s list, the Material Girl had an incredibly successful tour that netted her more than she’s earned in any given year since we started the Celebrity 100 in 1999.

But Madonna has a dozen albums that are still being sold. She also has publishing royalties, endorsements, gyms, and clothing, jewelry, and perfume.
