The Filipino girl who sang the Filipino version of Umbrella, any Filipino who knows that?

EVERYONE says that and it's quite unfitting. People keep wanting her to relive "Valenti" days, while others think she needs to evolve and mature in sound and video. She releases mature tracks like "Dakishimeru" and "Lose Your Mind" and voila FLOP. She goes back and does bubble-gum pop like "Nanairo No Ashita" ~Brand New Beat~ and instant success. The Japanese public doesn't know wut they want from BoA.
As for Ayu, I'm tired of her constant "reinvention" like Madonna where it all is just overrated now.

Success? Her pop singles barely do anything here anymore. VIVID barely hit 30k, for a Triple-A single (not to mention during the summer), that's TERRIBLE.
I love BoA and always will, but right now she's considered stale and old in Japan, and unless she takes a break and gets an IMAGE & MUSIC OVERHUAL, her sales will just keep declining. :-/

Triple A? It was only a Double A I thought?
pssh, 30,000 is whorrible by her standards but remember we are talking about Japan. Successful artists don't sell that much. Her album are flopping compared to her old ones, selling 185,000 copies, but very few Japanese acts sell that much, especially not unless they are Utada Hikaru, Ayumi Hamasaki, or Koda Kumi (just barely). She isn't a boyband.
Wut exactly would you say she needs to do to gain success?

Believe me, I know the boy bands are taking over.
On that note, its' technically considered a Triple A, though it was hardly promoted like one. And while you make a valid point about successful artists not selling that much, there's a difference between popularity and sales. Example: Seiko Matsuda, she can't sell nearly what she used to be, but she'll always be remembered in the Japanese public. The same will go for Ayumi, and Utada when they get older.
But speaking as a first-person account in Japan, a lot of the younger generation (the one primarily buying music) sees her as "uncool". Koda still has some of that edge left in her, Utada's got fantastic tie-ups and her general quirkiness, and Ayumi's got a more western style that Japan is just now starting to come to terms with. But BoA hasn't made any changes in a while.
I'm not sure what she needs to do, honestly. But I know that if she keeps up the way she's going, she'll just seem even more "uncool" as time goes on, and the sales will show it. It's true sales are decreasing for everyone, but her's are at a more rapid pace than anybody else.

The only non-English music I listen to is old school Shakira, Maná, Ely Guerra and La Ley.

Very good points indeed, but you can see why I get annoyed that there always a lot of criticism concerning her PR lately, yet nobody is offering a solution. Utada and Ayu are legendary in Japan, but as of now Koda Kumi is a gimmick. We'll see where she is in a couple years.
haha, as for the boybands, we might as well call them "girlbands."

I completely agree with the comment on Koda. As much as I love her, the only thing she'll ever be remembered for is bringing in a new age of girls being more outspoken and less conservative. And she might not even be that lucky.
My solution is this: she needs to take a break, first. I think she's really just doing whatever the producers tell her at this point because she doesn't care as much. When she comes back, she needs to pull an Amuro and do something more r&b, with a great tie-up. I mean c'mon, Namie is in her 30s, and people find her cooler than BoA. That's not good.
BoA has the potential, she just needs the right promotion. As of now, she can't sell her music based on her name and mediocre tie-ups.
And girl bands indeed, some of them are more feminine than the overly cutesy female JPop singers.

THANK YOU. A female asian that hates them as much as I!
Taking a break would be good, but I dunno if that's her style. I just don't know. Namie Amuro came back with some mediocre covering that the public happened to like. I don't know wut BoA would do. It's impossible for BoA to lose popularity though. She might be losing ground in the music industry but she's sooo popular endorsement-wise. She's the Anna Kournikova of music in Japan (just in case you don't know, Kournikova hasn't played tennis for years and she's still massly popular for her modeling and advertisement).

I'll never give into their boyish charms. I can see through them, right to their mediocre music and talent.
And I get what you mean, but I personally like Namie's recovery. What else was she going to do? She relied heavily on TK before, and once his music went out of style, and she got married/had a kid, she was a has-been. But she brought herself back.
And yeah, BoA is popular when it comes to endorsements, I can't argue there. But I don't know how much longer that could last. I know a common opinion is that she isn't that cute (not my personal one, but one I've heard many times). I don't necessarily think it's IMPOSSIBLE for her to lose popularity, with that being said.
I don't know, I love her, and just want the best for her. If Amuro could do it, BoA definitely can. She's got way more youth appeal.

^Very true. I think she's got another 5 years in her at least if she can regroup well.
Generally, for the sake of this thread, I think America should be more exposed to music of other countries (yes, even England counts, as we've seen with Leona Lewis and the Spice Girls in the past, they make good music too).

I'm not very sure if she will regroup well in a near future. I'm by no means a BoA Hater, but nowadays i only download her music cause she's BoA. Her albums are pretty bland IMO. The last single i've enjoyed was Sweet Impact and it did after, approximately, 14 listens (Which is bad since I Loved Outgrow era singles, and Winter Love at first listen)
Although promotion could seem to be the main factor, i would take into account that Quality ,Freshness(If that's even a word) And Good Image is what makes artist succeed. Even if it's not necessary to point out Kumiko, It's a good example of people getting tired of the same generic ballad (Ai no Uta, Yume Uta, Futari de, Moon Crying and the list goes on) and Low quality pop tunes(Last Angel , But, That Ain't Cool DISASTER) and not to mention that scandal
