LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rap star Kanye West scored a leading eight nominations for the 50th annual Grammy Awards, the music industry's top honours, organizers said on Thursday.
Neo-soul singer Amy Winehouse, whose promising career has been sidetracked by a litany of personal problems, followed with six Grammy bids.
Five acts received five nominations each -- rock band the Foo Fighters, rapper Jay-Z, hip-hop producer Timbaland, pop singer Justin Timberlake, and R&B singer T-Pain.
Winners will be announced during ceremonies in Los Angeles on February 10.

They didn't mention Rihanna's six nominations here though...

She got 4 nominations. "Song Of The Year" and "Best R&B Song" doesn't count for her because she didn't write "Umbrella" & "Hate That I Love You". Those awards are for the songwriters

True. Forgot about that! Thanks for clearing that up!
gosh the hip-hop categories this year are weak. Best Rap Song is a complete joke besides Kanye's two songs, and Rap Album is pretty bad too. ~_~
shocked that the Foos got a lot of nominations. that's pretty awesome. also that Vince Gill 4 CD epic thing getting some big nominations is pretty cool too. Magic was robbed of an AOTY placement. it's much better then The Rising.
Best Pop Instrumental Performance nominees are: "Off The Grid" -- Beastie Boys
"Paris Sunrise #7" -- Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals
"Over The Rainbow" -- Dave Koz
"One Week Last Summer" -- Joni Mitchell
"Simple Pleasures" -- Spyro Gyra
go Beasties!
EDIT:
some notes on the full nominations now, since I finally have seen them:
-Beasties should sweep the pop instrumental categories. or at least they should
-Justice are good, but if LCD doesn't win Best Dance Album i'm calling for a recount.
-Timebomb! nice. pretty good for a song that has only had a single release.
-Sky Blue Sky getting nominated is much deserved. actually Rock album besides Daughtry is very strong.
-Alternative album is okay. it's been much better in previous years.
-if Int'l Players Anthem doesn't win Rap Performance by Duo or Group then i'll be so angry. it's the obvious best song in the category.
-Comedy album is pretty weak this year. Patton Oswalt got robbed. the only good albums in there are Flight Of The Conchords and Steven Wright. I mean really, Lisa Lampanelli?!?! she has never said anything her life that was close to being funny.
-so producer of the year is pretty weak too. hope Ronson wins out of those, because Timbaland had an off year besides The Way I Are.
-video of the year is pretty solid. I don't really have anything against them except the Mute Math video which I haven't seen.
No nominations for Linkin Park and Mike was there presenting the nominees
Ehh no surprise they've done it with Nickelback and Evanescence before. Both presented at the nomination announcement at some point but didn't get any during those times.
