Everyone knows, even a 13 years old, that you're going to be the most famous and sought after in your home country after you become famous. Its not rocket science. Your home country doesn't become a safe haven after you become famous, its on the contrary actually.

Or she'll likely just pull an Adele and go away for a couple of years and then come back and slay again. And ATRL will seethe.

When you don't want it, don't do it. She could have also opted for a 9-5 job.

Honey, no one can prepare for fame. You need to show some consideration. And she is just 17.

You know. Not everyone knows. And you make it seem like Lorde set out to be a superstar when most people thought "Royals" was out of the norm of what's played on radio. Her success is "accidental." Still, whether or not everyone knows about any of that, they still have the right to feel overwhelmed by it once they've actually experienced it.

It's not like she knew she was going to be famous in the first place. And I'm pretty sure it's different to know it than to actually live it.

You and others here on ATRL are missing her point.
Lorde is the first global superstar from New Zealand the frenzy OVER THERE is definitely new (new not only for Lorde but for the country). Basically New Zealanders are waking up to the fact that the illusion they had about their country being calm and collected and where celebrities can move about freely without anyone bothering them is no longer real and that they are not as special as they thought they were (immune from hysterics).

Oh please, that is just the dumbest argument. If I had chosen to be a popstar or whatever kind of celebrity, I have to deal with negative aspects.
It's not that you can just grab the cash and leave and then lead your life as if nothing has happend.
Regardless if you have really wanted fame badly or not, everytime you release something (especially on a major label), you have to expect that it will resonate with ppl who want every little piece of you.

"Accidental" success my ass. She could've pulled Royals off the radios any time she wanted. And don't tell me its a label decision.
And I'm talking about the fame thing from experience.

This is the bottom line, no one can prepare themselves for fame. Disembarking a long-haul flight to getting screamed at, shoved and harassed, especially for the first time, has got to be truly unpleasant. After all Lorde's songs are anti-money/fame, it's just an unfortunate irony that they're what has given her this attention.
I wish her all the best - it's gonna be a tough couple of weeks for her with all of this increased attention.

You do remember she released Royals for free, right? Not like a 16 year old New Zealand singer was in it for the cash.

Well, good for you, honey.
You are only one person with your own personal feelings. She just expressed how overwhelmed by the response that she gotten. She didn't go on any talk show and said "**** the industry!" Like I implied earlier, many of you are very petty and nitpicking. You sit up here and stan for a celebrity. These people are actually celebrities, and yes, I give her a pass for being 17. She has time to adjust and deal. Stop being so close-minded.

You are NOT famous, and you are definitely not as famous as Lorde is. So what experience are you equating to what Lorde's currently embarking on?

Well, she didn't have a father to buy her career, so yes, I do see her success as "accidental."

his very much valid argument is that it's none of your business though. sure, she's posted it online, and sure enough, you can comment on it, and yet again, he can make a further response to your comment but when does it end? he's kind of being the "fan" or "the voice of the reason" here and you're being a BIT on the "hater" side of the argument.
the whole freedom of speech-movement has turned into bullying around these parts of online communities and he's just a bit "mad", if you wish.
i actually agree with him. while i'm not a big lorde fan, i've surely seen her being picked on for some of the most ridiculous things around here. it's just become a bandwagon.
i guess we'll stay mad, eh
