Oh, definitely not.
Way too early to be giving her that title, along with the ICOnnot award.

How do we stay "ignorant" to what the word means when she was handed an award dedicated to her being an ICON in the music industry.
Strange how that works, no?

Laziest artist but already has seven certified albums, six of them platinum. Have you spotted your contradiction and fail??

Success is not iconic. Memorability is. There are a lot of underperforming or poorly received music, videos, movies, etc that later become iconic, 10 years from now, what will people think of WFL?
I think people have to understand that being successful is not iconic. There are songs that reached #1 and have earned awards that no one really remembers today.

Firstly, reported. You got so mad over a thread calling us 16-year-olds with angsty grudges against their parents. So predictable tho.
And who says voices of our generation have to be Mariah's or Whitney's. A voice is not about doing a stacatto, or havin a 5 octave range or **** like that. It's about being recognised by people of your time and being relatable to it.

Lots of artists have had commercially successful periods of time, but that didn't stop them from fading away because even after all of their hit records they did nothing that left a lasting impression on the mind of the general public. The general public doesn't know (or care) how many weeks which girl went #1 in Sweden or Kazakhstan. They respond to more tangible moments of "iconicness" (performances, videos, catch phrases, memorable outfits, etc). In that regard, I would argue that Beyonce is the most iconic artist of her generation, and she managed to do it without hair dye or a police report.

Why are people not even considering Miley ??
The whole world's been watching her since 2006, long before Gaga came on the scene.
Just because she's young doesn't mean the whole world hasn't been talking about her for years.
She was selling out those arena tickets like hotcakes. Every little girl wanted to be Hannah Montana.
2013 only exposed her further. Every person on the planet knows her name.
Maybe she hasn't had as many iconic music moments as Gaga + Rih, but I get the feeling we're not really talking about music in this thread, are we?
Dare I say more iconic than Gaga in the USA, if not worldwide?

Rihanna is the icon for what? Singles? Nah Queen, Mariah>>>>>
Bey is the icon for talent so I would say her.
Kelly Clarckson is the icon of American Idol so she's one too.
Gaga is the icon for crazy, she's one too.

This.
The question is, if Rihanna stopped making albums today, will she still be loved, respected and remembered?
Longevity is what gets you those titles. Give the girl time.

Also I will agree that Miley is a strong contender here. She's the only pop girl who gave us any iconic moments in 2013. The VMA performance and the Wrecking Ball video were both actually iconic.
(And I say this as someone who hates Miley because unlike most of ATRL I can separate fact from delusion)

Congrats for the copy/paste receipts
1) umbrella is huge.
2) it's only 2014. The decade isn't even half over. Chill.
3) again a big song.
4) biggest artist thanks to singles. But like I stated that doesn't make you iconic. It makes you forgettable once you start to fall flat on that spectrum.
5) so is every other pop star. Not iconic in anyway.
6) she's been slandered left and right as a performer as well. But we can pretend she's acclaimed. Or that she sings more than 30% of the words during her shows.
7) JT can play guitar and drums. Beyonce can't play instruments but her star power makes her so iconic there doesn't have to be a thread about it.
8) Her cowriting skills must be horrid, because she is a singles artist, and her singles are the best material on her albums, and she has only written one single. The lyrics being fairly shallow and not even having rhythmic structure.
Lol but "scalp away" with these tired receipts.

We shall see. I have no problem with Rihanna's WFL being iconic, but I don't see it as iconic at the moment

Hit songs are more iconic than any performance or out fit will ever be
And obviously you'll say Beyonce is iconic how can she be iconic when most of the general public cannot remember a song she's released?
Musicians should be remembered for their music. Not stunts they've pulled with their children or trips to Cuba.
