I've got a friend whose mom applied for a Green Card, when she got in the US Embassy, they treated like she was a piece of ****... they made her fill the documentation over and over again and when she finally got to the interview, they said her application was being denied because she was 62 years old and she didn't have anything left in Venezuela. She didn't get the chance to visit her son, they were acting like she was going to stay there. When my friend came back from the US, because they economy is in really bad shape, it was the first time he was able to see his mother in 5 years.
I've been there, twice, and not all of em are arrogant, there are nice people there, but it is definitely not a country I would choose to live, I still don't understand why some Latins fight to get an established life there. I'd definitely choose European countries.

That's the one place I really want to visit, and if it goes well...move. I want to visit Ontario, but I think that's because I watched a ****-ton of Degrassi a couple of years ago.

Granted, the 20 years was a bit of exageration.
I went through all this, when I was trying to move to LA. The visa process was painful.

Oh. My bad
I guess it depends on what type of visa then. I got here through petition.
And I got my greencard just after a month. I agree though, all those paper works & waiting, never again.

It's not the best country, but at least we have clean drinking water, enough food, enough money, and a few other things. Well, at least I do.

WTF? Why couldn't he go visit his mom in Venezuela? Why does she need a green card to come to the US? If she only wanted to visit, why not get a passport?

My point exactly, this is why people (at least from poorer countries) want to immigrate to US. Dont take these for granted (not saying you are)!

Oh, I see you know nothing about that. If a Venezuelan wants to go to the US, even if he wants to visit, he would need a Green Card, a temporal one, we can get one for months or a few years. Mine lasts 5 years. I can use my passport to visit any other country in the world, but if I wanna visit the US, I need my Green Card.
And he couldn't visit his mom 'cause his work didn't let him, he was helping his family to get some extra money, they were having a pretty bad time.

I think you mean a tourist visa. A green card is a "temperary residency card." which you get if you want to live in the US for 3-5 years.

Lemme not get started about their legal system cuz that's the PITS and as an international law student I'd know
Human rights are limited. Most states don't have gay marriage, Americans have very limited privacy and the prisons are horrible

woo these blanket statements. a shame they're all wrong though.
