I think the biggest factor is finding someone you can relate to. I can't imagine being hounded by paparazzi, always at the studio, or on tour and then come home and not be able to share those frustrations/ joyous moments with your partner.
So yeah even tho many celebrities have dated regular folks Im sure their different careers caused many problems like trust issues or lack of quality time.
- Take Rihanna for an example I could never see her dating someone from Barbados now that she's famous. But on the flip side she dated Matt Kemp and even tho he's famous too they still hit roadblocks. She was the bigger celebrity so I remember him saying in interviews how he was annoyed by constant paparazzi and it took him time to adjust being in a high profile relationship and her always on the road.
I always felt that guys who date regular women do so as a way to keep them around. As if it makes them feel powerful and strokes their ego. Sort of like a "you need me" or "I made you". So typically they get these women pregnant or shower them with material items and ultimately dog them out by cheating or giving them false hope of a marriage. & then you get shows like Basketball Wives or Hollywood Exes, etc
