But what if this backfires on everyone and actually builds up to be a great hit ? I dont think its a underperformance ! I think its doing fine !

It could be doing better, it could be doing worse. People here expected her to break every record imaginable, fans and haters alike, and the song just seems to be sitting there.
I would call it a moderate hit

You had some data wrong, so I fixed it + bolded countries in which the 1M number was not counted from.
If Applause has moved 35,000 copies in Australia - a relatively small country by population whilst only peaking at #11 - what can be said for the rest of the countries it entered the Top 10 in?
