the thing about katy is that She Wants to EVOLVE like Madonna. Not be Just like her. Anything can happen though. at the time Madonna had Whitney Houston, Paula Abdul, Cyndi Lauper, Janet JAckson. as of now the current big pop stars besides Katy are, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha,

Alright no, just stop. How has she evolved at ALL? Not to be biased, but watch the "Just Dance" music video, and then the Bad Romance video if you want evolution.
Also, any other pop girl could sing Perry's singles and they would be hits. They are generic radio candy. Her career is far from iconic.
Come back to me when performs at the White House.

No madonna's been extremely risky since she dropped like a virgin comparing a blossoming love to losing your virginity especially in them times was really risky, and really genius if you ask me. But Whitney & Janet are huge legends and impactful in there own right so they don't deserve to be in that post

Katy has never done anything remotely groundbreaking or innovative, so no. She still is nothing but a singles artist, a highly successful one at that, but that's all she is. Gaga is still the heir to the throne, one single underperforming doesn't change that.
Call me when Katy actually decides to take a major risk in her career, or do something creative and out of the box. I mean, 7 of her 8 #1s were produced by Dr. Luke, and she went right back to him for Prism. As someone stated above, any other pop girl could sing Katy's songs and they would be hits of equal size. She's nothing but fluff, no substance, and that's yet to change.

But that's the thing some of the katycats don't understand these terms and worse of all don't understand madonna at all. They just see and know Madge had chart hits and pushed units and katy does the same somewhat, so Katy must be the next madonna. Negelcting the fact Madonna's approach to her music, reinventions, risks and the boundaries she broke for the gay community/women etc.. everywhere separates her entirely from Katy

Perfect description. They really are like Ke$ha songs, made a bit more mainstream appealing.

No one in this generation is the next madonna bcuz a true next madonna would never be the next anything. They would be uniquely iconic and successful entities in their own right.
So far Britney has been the most iconic, remembered, referenced, and inspirational female from the 2000s.
Everyone else...things remain to be seen.

Yes. She's incredibly successful with selling singles and having nice breasts, that's about it.

Girl she's had four pretty decent flops in a row.
I'm not sure how many Madonna had, but there weren't many.

Madonna will never have a successor. Someone could sell twice as many records and maintain a celebrated career for twice as long and they still wouldn't hold a candle to her. Madonna is held in such high regard not so much because of her incredible success but because of her unparalleled impact.
You simply can't compare female artists post-Madonna to the woman herself because they all have the luxury of having had Madonna (and others, of course) come before them to make the world a much safer place. She is the blueprint and will never be replaced -- or even rivaled, for that matter.

Uh, she's only had Marry The Night. The Edge of Glory and You & I were both hits, I don't know what deluded world you've been living in. And Applause is about to debut at somewhere around #7 on the Hot 100 this week, pretty sure that qualifies as a hit. And it's only been on iTunes for 5 days, and it's yet to have any substantial promo. Wait for the video and the VMAs, and it'll hit at least top 5 on the Hot 100. But you sure tried, though.
