i think its cute that they think gaga will take time off her sold out world tour to even notice this fail attempt of dragging and this is exactly why theyll forever be irrelevant and unsigned.
bye now
The entire video is a tongue-in-cheek, sunny adventure through Cape Town South Africa, utilising every South African stereotype under the sun (“Yes, we have hyenas eating from bins and lions lounging around in the streets”) to highlight the stereotypical perceptions and assumptions of the South African people by Westerners, including Lady GaGa as a symbol of Westernised superficiality (as well as throwing shade at UMG, because they don’t like them or Lady GaGa very much).
They’re shock artists. They want things raw and cripplingly intense. That’s why they left Interscope. Their intention through their music is to use shocking imagery and sounds to provoke thought post-outrage. And that’s sometimes a fantastic way to get a message across.
Sorry to get all My First Media Essay 101 at you, but I genuinely believe through the use of provocative imagery, they’ve yet again said, through brilliant, satirical and convoluted means, said “You don’t know **** about South Africa.”
I have friends who live in the town that the video was set in (Cape Town, SA) - and I know they’d find this video hilarious, based on the Western-perceived stereotypes alone.
They are intentionally using institutionalised racism as a weapon against the West and Western stereotypes. They know how to work up the idiots and make sure the smart ‘uns (and South Africans!) know what’s really going on. So relax. It’s a badass piece of work, and I think you’d appreciate it more if you took the racial imagery for what it was intended. Just remember they know what they’re doing. This isn’t their first trek through controversy, and they would never want to shame their mother country.
If you're a Gaga fan, why are you spreading this around OP?
You're just giving their pretentious try-hard nonsense more exposure.
Reported because you're messy. It's a great video from a great group. This is a music forum. It belongs in here and It's not a diss or anything against GaGa. Their humor went above you. You can take a million seats now, disrespectful ****. Thanks.
- Yolandi in that yellow dress with the blackface (was that really necessary?)
- the *** covered ant that Gaga birthed (because, remember, she's a man)
- the whole "Exotic Africa" meme (cuz Africa is just so damn wild, and the people in the cities there just chilll all willy nilly with lions tigers and bears as pets)
Every time I think I've seen it all, Die Antwoord proves me wrong.
Absolute mess at the fact that Die Antwoord's whole schtick is mocking American perceptions of Africa went right over your head.
Girl! Check your iTunes-Store or google and get your hands on their Debut "$o$" and "Ten$ion" - Both ****ing good...their productions are insane! Especially on Ten$ion
