You can also choose whatever hardware you want, and aren't locked into Apple's proprietary ecosystem. You can install any app you want, or even multiple markets. With Android, it is YOUR device, and your OS. With Apple products, it is a very different story.
3. Android is making HUGE strides forward with every release, and is already miles ahead of iOS in terms of features, design, and usability. Expect big, amazing updates three times a year rather than and extra row of icons once a year.

1. The Nexus 7 is a solid device, but the apps make the tablet in my opinion.
2. No, and as far as Android being "better", simpler, and having the ability to do more, that claim is highly subject and it's one that I have to disagree with. People will choose what suits them best. Personally, I don't need 27 widgets slowing my phone to a crawl.
3. Not really, it depends, my old Android phone never received any kind of update, even after I was informed I should be expecting one. There's much more fragmentation on Android than on iOS. And why wouldn't Apple add another row of icons to a phone with a larger screen?
