People didn't already know this? I've known this for like forever now. Why would she release a single in 2012 if she hasn't hyped it at all yet? When the single is coming WE WILL KNOW IT. It wont be here until a few months into 2013 at the earliest.

Well she could have been going with an alternate strategy from BTW. Letting the single come out without massively hyping it for months in advance.

Not exactly unheard of. We may be getting a new Rihanna single this Monday and we had no idea about it before a couple days ago.

It wouldn't take much for hype to swell to a reasonable level if she even just announced it 1-2 weeks in advance of release.
